Theory Vs Practice

Often you hear of students who have studied or are currently studying in programs that are either completely based on dictating or are entirely focused on practical application in the workplace.

At NIME we don't follow either of these approaches, choosing instead to make use of and integrate both theory and practice. We aim to strike a balance between academic rigor and practicality. Our faculty is engaging and makes use of underlying theories to demonstrate application both practically and realistically, we teach you how to use a set of frameworks, but in a practical way.

Computer simulations, case studies, assignments based on real issues in actual organizations and the practical experience of our students and faculty allow you to make mistakes in our classroom and not in the boardroom.

Interactivity
The Socratic method employed at NIME is designed to make you an active participant in both your own education and that of others. A variety of teaching formats are adopted to create an interactive experience where class discussion and debate are rife and the norm to question and challenge convention, and defend, debate and convince in a logical manner.

Teamwork
The most common means for facilitating the transfer of knowledge between students at NIME is via working in teams, or what we term 'syndicate groups'.

We believe that this approach provides a way which simulates the real working environment, while experimenting in a safe environment and honing your skills in teamwork, communication, negotiation, presentation delivery and leadership.

A Typical Syndicate Group
Syndicate groups typically comprise of four to six people, often in their middle to senior management positions and with extensive work experience. Group members will have different perspectives, opinions and experiences to share. This in turn, creates an environment for the cross-fertilization of knowledge and a chance to step beyond the bounds of 'familiar thinking'.

Faculty and Research
NIME is involved with numerous joint research alliances and has relationships with internationally based faculty and business schools. The findings of the research initiatives will then be integrated directly into the content of appropriate units. This ensures that the unit content is based on leading-edge research and also reflects what is really going on in business today.

Many of NIME faculty members are educated or have worked and/or taught overseas. NIME regularly hosts a number of international visiting professors and aims to take advantage of every opportunity to further internationalize the program content.

Curriculum
NIME's curriculum is not purely focused on business and management in an Indian context. In fact, our programs and unit content are designed to develop a global perspective, making use of international case studies, discussing issues on a global context and offering a range of special electives in international management including NIME's international study tour.

Study Tours
Study tour explores topics, such as leadership, operations, knowledge management, or marketing. Overseas destinations that offer new perspectives in these areas are visited.

Study tours allow students to gain first-hand insight into leading organizations and their business practices, expand networks and begin building relationships with executives from major international organizations. Participants from diverse backgrounds contribute to the self-directed, deeper level learning approach offered by the tours.

In addition to the overseas component, participants undertake intensive preparation by researching each organization to be visited in order to maximize the benefits of the tour and exchange views openly with senior executives from host companies.
